H1N1 Flu Information

  • PRESS RELEASE / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

One on One interview with Dr. Edmond Noll and Battalion Chief Greg Godfrey.

The media is reporting suspected cases of H1N1 Flu in Mexico and the United States. To date, there have been approximately 1600 reported cases of H1N1 Flu in Mexico and 40 confirmed cases in the United States.

We currently do not have any reported cases in the City of Glendale. Nonetheless, we are committed to the health and safety of our employees and community. So we are closely monitoring the situation as reported by the various health agencies. President Obama says that there is a call for concern, not a call for alarm.

At this time, we are asking everyone to follow basic guidelines for reducing the transmission of communicable diseases. These guidelines are found by following the links provided on our website or by going directly to the website at the Center for Disease control at http://cdc.gov/swineflu/.

Everyday actions you can take to stay healthy:

    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.

    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person to person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Most importantly, if you feel or begin to experience any flu-like symptoms, including, but not limited to, fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, muscle aches, and coughing, please check with your family doctor for advice and treatment. Some people with H1N1 Flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
