Library Skills - What kinds of books does the Library have? |
Reference books help library users find answers to questions. They can not be taken home. These books all have the letter "R" in the call number. Some of these books are found in the special Reference section at or near the Reference Desk. A Librarian can show you how to use these books.
The Library has books in many languages besides English. These books are found on the International Languages shelves. They are arranged alphabetically by language (Arabic, Armenian, Bulgarian, Chinese, etc.) Each book also has a call number or author on the back of the book.
At the Central Library on Harvard Street, books about Glendale are in the Special Collections Room. A Librarian can help you with these books.
Some books are stored on the Upper Level of the Central Library. In the computer catalog these books are marked "STORAGE". Ask at the Upper Level Service Desk for these books.
Books marked "LT" have
larger print that is easier to read, for people with limited vision. They
are shelved in a special place. Many books on jobs, careers, and
resume-writing are located in the Job Center at each library.
WAYUSA books have useful information for new Glendale residents. They
are found at the Central Library near the Reference Desk.
Books for teenagers are shelved in a special Teen area at the Central
Library.
Children's books are separated from adult books at each library. They have
a "j" in front of the call number: j 398.2 AUT
