Zoning the city is the process of dividing the city into areas that have different development regulations. Glendale has 7 residential zones, 5 commercial zones, 1 industrial zone, 3 mixed use zones, 3 specific plan areas (including the recently adopted Downtown Specific Plan, Town Center Specific Plan and the South Brand Boulevard Specific Plan), and 4 specialized zones (Commercial Equestrian, Transportation, Open Space and Cemetery). The City also employs several overlay zones that add focused regulations to specific properties or areas. The Zoning Map of the City shows the various zoning categories and where they are located.
The Zoning Map is one, continuous, large image of the City.
Zoning Map (2.5 mb--PDF format)
The Zoning Index Map shows the entire city divided up into smaller areas, or grids. Each grid has an identification number, such as F-01. By clicking on the grid number, you will see the zoning for that grid at a much higher resolution than can be shown on the city-wide zoning map. Each of the small maps can be downloaded or printed, they are 500-600 kb in size, and are in the .pdf format. In the upper right corner is the legend.

Both maps incorporate changes from the Downtown Specific Plan, San Fernando Road Rezoning, and Multi-Family Transition Zoning programs.
Zoning Ordinance and Municipal Code
You can now see the recently reformatted Zoning Ordinance online. Various sections of the Municipal Code also refer to or address Planning issues. For easy reference, selected elements of the Municipal Code which address Planning and Zoning issues are summarized here.
Clicking on a section of the code will open a new window with the code in it. To return to this list, simply close the new window.
Please Note: The information in these files was last updated January 2004. While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this information, the online Municipal Code is provided as a reference to the citizens of Glendale and the Internet Community.
