POLICE RELATED INCIDENTS
Robbery Suspect in Custody - Monday, December 29, 2008:
Officer Saloomen was hailed down by four males at the corner of Broadway and Central. One male was lying on the ground. Additional officers responded Code 3 to the location when the males did not initially cooperate with Officer Saloomen’s commands. It was learned during the investigation that the male on the ground had attempted to steal a motor scooter to the rear of the In-N-Out on Brand. The suspect attempted to stab the victim and his friends with a screwdriver when he was confronted. The suspect then fled through the Galleria parking lot and was struck by a vehicle in the lot. The suspect continued running from the victim and was again confronted by the group at Central and Broadway where a fight occurred.
The suspect was cleared by paramedics at the scene and booked for robbery with a gang enhancement due to the fact he claimed "TVR" during the fight with the group. Suspect was identified as a known TVR member by officers on the scene.
Residential Burglary in Progress - Sunday, December 28, 2008:
Officer responded to the 400 block of Wing Street regarding a possible residential burglary in progress. The witness, an off duty officer, observed two males jump the rear fence to the residence after attempting to open the front door. The owner of the residence was not home. Agent Lowrey and Officer Acosta was the first unit on scene. On arrival, they contacted the two males in the front yard of the residence however one of the males fled northbound on Wing. Assisting officers detained him just north of the residence. Both suspects were positively identified by the witnesses and arrested for burglary.
One of the suspects was wearing latex gloves and had a black beanie, screwdriver, and a second pair of latex gloves in his possession. The second suspect was wearing a pair of black cotton gloves. Upon further investigation it appeared the suspects attempted to pry the rear screens of the residence but were never able to make entry.
Assault in Progress - Sunday, December 28, 2008:
A passerby saw a dark four door vehicle parked on the east curb of Brand south of Acacia. A male passenger punched the female driver twice, then exited the vehicle and threw a cell phone on the ground. The female momentarily exited but got back into the car when the male re-entered the vehicle. The male then punched the female again. The female then drove eastbound Acacia.
The air unit and responding officers checked the area with negative results. The damaged cell phone was recovered from the scene and some preliminary identifying information was obtained. A call out was authorized and Assaults Investigators Wofford and Gaxiola were advised and responded.
Update: The investigation revealed the cell phone owner’s address. Officer’s responded to the location and found the suspect. The victim was not home but she was later found at a relative’s home. The suspect was arrested and booked for assault and domestic violence.
Fight - Saturday, December 27, 2008:
Officers responded Code 3 to San Fernando and Western to the rear of Del Taco regarding a large group fighting. Upon arrival several individuals were detained to the rear of 1013 Western. The incident started with a minor traffic dispute. A male driving southbound confronted the victims to the rear of Del Taco and a verbal dispute began. Attendants at a party on Western heard the dispute and ran to assist the driver. Several males began fighting with two of the victims. The fight stopped when they heard police sirens. Eight males were arrested for assault and one male was arrested for witness intimidation.
Possible Hot Prowl Burglary – Wednesday, December 24, 2008:
Officers responded Code 3 to the 700 block of Salem in regards two shots fired. Upon arrival, officers learned a “Hot Prowl” burglary had occurred where the suspect was confronted in the living room by the victim (owner). The suspect fired two rounds at the victim from an unknown handgun. The victim returned fire (2-3 shots) from his handgun. Victim was not injured and the suspect fled on foot. The area was checked with negative results. Area hospitals were notified for potential gunshot victims. Burglary Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Possible Kidnapping / False Imprisonment – Thursday December 18, 2008:
Officers responded to the front desk of the Police Station regarding a 19 year old female disturbing the peace. The female claimed to have had a dispute with others at the Hilton Hotel and needed a ride home to Vallejo, CA. The female became upset and attempted to break a window in the Police Station lobby with a chair after she was refused a ride home. She was subsequently arrested for disturbing the peace. Due to the alleged dispute, officers responded to the Hilton Hotel to check the well being of anyone who might be in the room. Upon arrival, officers contacted a second female (18 yrs) who claimed to be held against her will and forced to engage in prostitution. This female was reported as a kidnapping / False Imprisonment victim by Vallejo Police Department approximately five months ago. Detectives are working with the Vallejo Police Department to determine which agency will take the lead in the investigation.

Sobriety Checkpoint - Sunday, December 28, 2008:
Sobriety Checkpoint totals: An “Avoid the 100” sobriety checkpoint was staffed Saturday evening at San Fernando Rd and Milford St. Officers of the Glendale, Burbank, Los Angeles, Pasadena and San Marino police departments participated. The checkpoint yielded the following enforcement activity: 1115 Vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 722 Vehicles were screened, 3 DUI arrests, 10 Field Sobriety Test’s administered, 4 unlicensed driver arrests, 2 arrests for expired license, 1 Marijuana arrest, 1 Warrant arrest, 6 Vehicles towed and 3 Citations.
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck / Hit & Run - Sunday, December 28, 2008:
Officers dispatched to 223 1/2 Maple Street regarding a Traffic Collision Pedestrian Struck - hit/run. The pedestrian, female (18 years of age), was crossing the street on Chestnut, east of Brand, the female was not in a crosswalk and was crossing southbound. The vehicle, which was westbound on Chestnut, struck her causing her to fall to the ground. The pedestrian sustained abrasions to her knees.
The vehicle was described as a red Ford Bronco with a male Hispanic driver who fled westbound on Chestnut.
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck – Thursday, December 18, 2008:
A 62 year old male pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the 600 block of West Broadway. The pedestrian was crossing from the south curb to the north curb mid-block when an 84 year old male struck the pedestrian in the #2 lane. The pedestrian suffered a moderate abrasion to his head but was conscious and alert. He was transported to USC Medical Center for treatment.
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck – Wednesday, December 17, 2008:
A 47 year old female was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Glenoaks and Justin. The pedestrian was crossing eastbound in the south crosswalk against a flashing red hand when the driver, a 63 year old female was turning from eastbound Glenoaks onto southbound Justin, facing a green signal. The pedestrian was transported to Glendale Adventist Hospital for complaint of pain to her left leg.
