Project Description:

The Fairmont Avenue Extension Project is a major component of the SR-134/ San Fernando Road Access and Safety Improvement Program – being the largest public transportation project of its kind in the history of the City of Glendale’s Public Works Department. The project includes construction of a bridge structure on Fairmont Avenue, which will extend Fairmont Avenue to the west over San Fernando Road, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's railroad tracks, and the Verdugo Wash to join with the southerly extension of Flower Street. Below is additional information regarding the project.

Upcoming construction activities within Fairmont Avenue:
  • Drillings of piles and construction of bridge and retaining wall foundations
  • Widening of Fairmont Avenue on the south side of the street
  • Construction of falsework (temporary support structures) for the construction of the bridge structure
Upcoming construction activities to the west of San Fernando Road/ Railroad Tracks:
  • Construction of columns to the south of the Verdugo Wash and within the railroad right-of-way
  • Construction of a perimeter wall along the west perimeter of the Grayson Power Plant
  • Construction of falsework (temporary support structures) for the construction of the bridge structure
Upcoming construction activities within San Fernando Road:
  • Construction of columns within the west parkway – Between the west curb of San Fernando Road and the railroad tracks
  • Undergrounding of the overhead utilities on the east side of the street , between Doran Street and Fairmont Avenue
  • Widening of San Fernando Road on the east side of the street, between Doran Street and Fairmont Avenue
  • Construction of falsework (temporary support structures) for the construction of the bridge structure
Construction Equipment:

Heavy construction equipment including cranes, augers, excavators, backhoes, scrapers, compactors, and paving equipment will be used for the construction of the project.

Traffic Control/ Detours:

The City of Glendale will directly notify the community adjacent to the project of the traffic impacts due to the Contractor’s construction activities. Information will also be available on the City of Glendale’s web page to notify the general public of lane closures and traffic detours. The construction contractor will have in place all required construction/ traffic signs.

The City of Glendale and the construction contractor will work with the residents and the business and property owners to minimize the traffic impacts.

Working Hours:

Construction activities will be limited between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Work in excess of eight hours per day; night-work; work on Saturdays, Sundays or on City holidays; will require special approvals by the City. Such approvals would be exceptional and would be reserved for emergency work and for work that could not otherwise be effectively conducted during regular working hours.
