Brand Library and Art Center Renovation Project

This iconic landmark, which includes an art and music library, art galleries and a recital hall, has continued to be a cultural treasure for the community that annually beckons over 125,000 visitors, including art, architecture, and music students and researchers, historians, artists, musicians and performers, devotees of the performing and visual arts, area visitors, long time neighborhood residents and new residents of Glendale, those interested in the history of the facility and of the Brand family, and the general public.

The City of Glendale’s Public Works Engineering Division has been commissioned to upgrade and enhance the performance of the existing facilities.

The proposed Brand Library and Art Center Renovation Project will:

  • Improve the functionality as a Library and Art Center through improved space utilization.
  • Complete a seismic retrofit.
  • Provide building improvements such as upgraded roofing, electrical systems, telecommunication systems and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
  • Upgrade facility to meet current ADA standards.
  • Provide opportunities to highlight the significance of the Brand family to the history of Glendale.
  • Highlight prioritized architectural features of the 1904 Brand mansion.
The overall project will enhance the structure’s compatibility with Library functions, better accommodating collections and improving access to the facility for all, and expanding its services for new and existing audiences.
